Gabriel José García Márquez (Aracataca, March 6, 1927 - Mexico City, April 17, 2014) was umescritor, journalist, editor, and political activist Colombian. Considered one of the most important authors of the twentieth century, was one of the most admired and translated writers in the world, with more than 40 million books sold in 36 languages.
Was awarded the Neustadt International Prize for Literature in 1972 and the Nobel Prize in Literature 1982 for his body of work, which among other books include the acclaimed Hundred Years of Solitude.
